What is an Open Tibia server?

An Open Tibia server — an OT server, OTS or otserv — is a Tibia world run by its own community rather than by CipSoft. It runs open-source server software that speaks the same protocol as the official game, so an ordinary Tibia client can connect to it once it is pointed at the server's address.

Everything the official game fixes is a decision on an OT server: experience rates, PvP rules, which client version is supported, what the map looks like, which monsters and items exist. 110 servers are listed here across 11 countries, and 76 answered the most recent status check.

That freedom is the appeal, and it is also why a list like this has to exist. Servers open and close constantly, so the useful question is never which one existed last year but which one has players on it tonight — which is what OTServers.org measures rather than asks.

How this list is ranked

Every server on this page is contacted directly on its own game port and asked how many players are online. Nothing here is self-reported. A server owner can write any number on their own website; they cannot make our checks return one their server did not send.

  1. Each listing is polled on its game port — every 60 seconds for the busiest servers, down to every 15 minutes for quiet ones, with backoff for servers that stop answering.
  2. Uptime is the share of those checks a server answered over the last 30 days. It is a measurement, not a promise.
  3. Points combine the 30-day average player count, that uptime figure and recent votes.
  4. A vote loses half its weight every 7 days, so one burst of voting cannot hold a server at the top.

Paid promotion buys placement and a points bonus, and promoted rows say so on the row. It never rewrites a measured number — the full rules are in the FAQ.
